Always Conall (Bitterroot #2) by Sibylla Matilde

This is an adult contemporary romance (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥1/2
(Four and a half Conall Hearts)

Book Summary

***** Mature Content, Sexual Situations, Adult Situations, Strong Language *****

To him, I was only just Sage, Matt Nichols’ little sister. But I've worshiped Conall my whole life. My brother's best friend. My secret crush. My first and only love. Always hoping he’d really see... me.

And then, a torrent of circumstances ripped through my life. One by one, my family began to crumble. My dad's heart attack. My brother's tragic death. My mother's slipping sanity. And then Conall's abandonment. He took my heart when he left, but he gave me a reason to grow up fast, to be strong, and to live.

Now, just when things finally start looking up, he's back in Bitterroot. Standing before me, not the boy he once was, but a man. Just when I’m on the cusp of living again. Just when I’m starting to feel like I could let go of the past and be happy without him, the feelings I set aside for all those years are raging once again through my veins. My tight control is slipping. The future I've so carefully mapped out now seems so uncertain.

He’s changed, but he hasn’t. I hate him for leaving, but I love him for coming home.

But will he stay? And do I really, truly want him to after he shattered me before?

My Review

This story reminds me of mistakes we all make as teenagers. And honestly, most of us don’t have the opportunity to correct those mistakes.
Here we have a couple destined to fail with all the odds against them. And this story is the unlikely meeting between two people with baggage a plenty.  The question is can they come to an understanding? Can they beat the odds? And watching it unfold is the beauty of the story.
We’ve got a single mother and a solider returning home. What’s not to love in this one?
My book boyfriend is Conall.

Meet 'the one' and Read Freeing Her!

I'm not going to re-has the blurb and such (seriously, just look at the post below this one for the synopsis and all that jazz.)  Shouldn't be a secret or anything, but I've fallen in love with A.M.'s books- especially the romances.  Freeing Her is no exception; this is book hangover material right here, folks.

This book hit my like a freight train, in a good way. In a 'hit me baby, one more time' way.  It was emotinal, and raw, and sensual, and so damn sweet at times.  Keep in mind, this is a series, and while it does have a 'happy for now' thing going on, you're going to want to continue the series.  Nay, you're going to NEED to contiue the series.  It won't be a chore. *Shivers with delight*

It's a sexy, dark (and I mean ebony dark) ride with characters that have equally dark pasts, and unfettered kink without all the restrictions. This isn't a full rubber bodysuit with handcuffs and floggers and butt plugs, get your mind out of the red room of pain.  Consider it more of a 'layman's kink'; the kind of kink I am so much more familiar with.  No contracts and safe words, because it doesn't always have to go to that level of extreme to have seriously hot kinky sex.  I know hard core BDSM lovers will probably be grabbing their pitchforks (or floggers?) over that statement, but if you're just a 'dabbler' in that scene, and occasionally like it rough... this is how it is in my experience.

One thing that did give me a minor *ick* feeling... being inside the head of Gabby's cousin.  Ewww.  I don't like it there.  At all.  Though, to really get that full analysis of exact what a sick puppy he is, the reader needs that peek.  Do I have to like it?  No.  But I needed it.  It's just sad knowing there are such sick freaks (using that word in a BAD way) out there.  So, let that be a warning, there is a sick and twisted counsin that will make your skin crawl.  No Cleaver family here.

I don't want to spend this entire review spewing out favorite quotes- but just you you know, there was highlighting going on.  And maybe a panty change or two... or three, or four... OK Moving on...

I cannot WAIT until the next book. *starts jittering like a crack addict*  I want more Kolson!  I want to hold him, and find out more, and maybe lick him just a tiny bit.  That's not weird at all, right?  MORE KOLSON!!!

Officially, I'm giving 4 'I love your mouth' hearts, but throw in a nice swat on the ass and claiming kiss.

I received a complimentary eBook from the author
in exchange for my honest opinion.

Loving it ~ Read Freeing Her by A.M. Hargrove

Freeing Her (Hart Brothers #1) by A.M. Hargrove

This is an adult contemporary erotic romance novel (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥♥
 (Five Freeing Hearts)

Book Summary

Freeing Her (A Hart Brothers Novel, Book 1)

• This novel contains mature content and it not intended for younger readers.

This is the beginning of a story... the story of two people who were meant to be together. Why? Because unknown to them, they shared terrifying pasts and the cruel circumstances of their births doomed both of them to a life of hell.

Two strangers ... one night ... one accidental meeting that changed their lives forever.

Gabriella Martinelli, Manhattan psychiatrist had only one goal in life—to help abuse victims avoid the horrors she’d experienced herself. She worked late, volunteered, and donated her services to anyone who needed them. Life was good ... until her nightmare resurfaced. He found her, and began stalking her, and she knew he wouldn’t stop until he destroyed every ragged piece of her.

Kolson Hart, Manhattan’s most eligible bachelor, was ruled by his dark past. He liked control, from the boardroom to the bedroom and didn’t care to be involved with someone whose life was just as screwed up as his was. But one look at Gabriella short-circuited everything. Want ... desire ... need ... will sometimes drive a man to do things he swore he never would.

He freed her from a life of fear ... When he couldn’t even save himself.

My Review

I love mystery, crime, thrillers, and police procedurals. While this book doesn’t really fit the total of any of those categories, we do get a taste of each. In the end, this book is an erotic romance. There is angst, steaminess and an alpha male. But there are also many secrets to keep you intrigued.

As the title suggest, this story is more about Gabby and what’s she’s going through. And as promised, this book delivers in finding a resolution to her story arc. So there won’t be disappointment there.

What the story hints at is Kolson’s history. Although he’s a developed character, there are hints there is more to him than meets the eye. I’m looking forward to his story, Freeing Him, which is expected to be released next month. So there is no need to wait in reading this one because dare I say there is a HEA here.

Anyway, if you like your romance with spice and a bit of mystery, this one is for you. Don’t wait. Go pick it up.

My book boyfriend is Kolson.

This is not a happy love story ~ Insurmountable by T.E. White

Insurmountable (Sins of the Father #1) by T.E. White

This is a New Adult contemporary romance (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥♥
(Five WTF Hearts)

Book Summary

This isn’t some happy love story. If you want that, try something else. No, I own this nightmare and would have never guessed it could have happened to me.

My life is painstakingly puzzled out. And if I have to admit it, I fall for Red the first time I see her. In fact, she is the first of many things for me and maybe my last. She is the reflection of my happiness and the beginning to my end. She is the stain that covers my heart in the color of her blood-red hair.

Thoughts of her consume me and continue to bombard my mind like ricochet gunfire. So what can possibly go wrong, you wonder? A humorous chuckle escapes me, in case you didn’t hear it. Yeah, I can tell you, but you will judge me unfairly. This you need to hear from the beginning, so you know all the facts and feel what I felt. Maybe even sympathize and not give me your scorn. Then maybe you can possibly… possibly comprehend the enormity of my crossroads.

You have to know I never planned or meant for any of this. It isn’t my fault. It’s someone else’s sins that have efficiently destroyed my life in one fell swoop. My name?

My name is Tade Astor and happiness for me is insurmountable.

My Review

I wouldn’t say this book is dark, but it deals with a sensitive subject matter. I’m not sure if that’s the best description but it’s what I’ve got. If you are faint of heart, this story isn’t for you. There is a WTF moment that will either put you off or give you pause (a thought provoking moment).
This book is told entirely from the guy’s POV. For me, it’s an interesting switch up. I’m not sure if it would have been as interesting if told from hers.
Tade is the typical, rich, handsome, playboy type. And Reagan is the typical shy girl with not a lot of experience and some heart ache. The setting is college and that’s where the story of boy meets girl in a typical love story ends.
This story will fool you about what the twist is, but don’t count on it. To say it’s different is an understatement. I can’t say more because it would spoil it for you. You have to read blind to get the full enjoyment.
Anyway, it was a pleasurable read especially because of the uniqueness.
My book boyfriend is Tade.

Kill Devil Hills by Sarah Darlington (review)

Kill Devil Hills by Sarah Darlington

description

He’s twenty-four. She’s eighteen.
His life is exactly the way he’s always wanted it to be...stable.
She’s quite possibly the very definition of unstable.
Noah saved her.
Georgina never wanted to be saved.
Growing up, Noah Clark was passed from one relative to the next until he finally ended up living with his abusive, alcoholic uncle in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Thanks in part to the unwavering love and support of his best friend, Ellie Turner, Noah survived those years, escaped his uncle, and grew into the man he is today. Now he runs his own business and lives a pretty normal, no-nonsense life—one where he maintains a high level of control.
Georgina is Ellie’s younger sister. Four months ago, Noah saved Georgie’s life, but he thought that was where his involvement with his friend’s sister would end. Now Georgie has returned home from the recovery facility her parents sent her away to and Noah, still haunted by the night that connects them, can’t stop himself from continuously trying to protect this girl he barely knows. But is he willing to give up all of the control he’s worked so hard to build in his life and risk everything for her? Even more importantly, would she do the same for him?

review & rating

5 Stars!!

I loved it - completely totally loved it.  I have been in a slump for the whole summer basically and this is the first book in a very long time that I was sucked in from the first page.
I fell in love with Noah through the story.  I would have loved to know more about what makes him tick, but I still loved it.  Georgie I had a harder time connecting with but as the story went on I really grew to care about her.  I felt this as I saw her grow and come to some realizations about life and herself.  By the end of the story, I really loved her.  Let me just say that I love her sister and can't wait to see what comes for her!
The subject matter of this book is very powerful.  I loved the emotional story told by Ms Darlington in this book.  It is raw and beautiful.  The story is told in a well written perfect style.
I think any one will like this book.  It is a great point to start reading New Adult, Contemporary, Fiction anything!  I would caution younger readers - the content and steamy factor will make this cautionary for you.  However, everything is done very very well and I do believe any one can read and enjoy this book.
I will most definitely be reading anything I can get my hands on from this author - I loved her style of her writing and the pace/flow was great!  As I said earlier, I've been in a slump and this book was able to get back reading - completely worth the 5 star rating I've given it.

bonus

I do have a bonus for you - while I was reading this book I was listening to Sam Smith's album...  He has a song called "Latch" (acoustic) that fit this book so perfectly.  I plastered it on twitter and facebook already, but I wanted to tie to my review as well, so check this out.  I think it fits Noah and Georgie perfectly!

Fire Country by David Estes

Fire Country (Country Saga #1)
by David Estes (Goodreads Author)

In a changed world where the sky bleeds red, winter is hotter than hell and full of sandstorms, and summer's even hotter with raging fires that roam the desert-like country, the Heaters manage to survive, barely.

Due to toxic air, life expectancies are so low the only way the tribe can survive is by forcing women to procreate when they turn sixteen and every three years thereafter. It is their duty as Bearers.

Fifteen-year-old Siena is a Youngling, soon to be a Bearer, when she starts hearing rumors of another tribe of all women, called the Wild Ones. They are known to kidnap Youngling girls before the Call, the ceremony in which Bearers are given a husband with whom to bear children with.

As the desert sands run out on her life's hourglass, Siena must uncover the truth about the Wild Ones while untangling the web of lies and deceit her father has masterfully spun.(less)

ebook, 398 pages
Published January 29th 2013 by Smashwords Edition

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fire Country, the first book in the Country Saga, is the story of the Heaters, a tribe of people struggling to survive in a world where if breathing the air doesn't kill you, then certainly the unrelenting heat, the Killers, or the Glassies will. Fifteen-year-old Siena is on the cusp of becoming a Bearer, a woman who is of the age to be Called to bear children for the survival of the tribe. Even though the Call is a requirement for every young girl, Siena is not sure this is the life for her.

I liked Siena's character a lot. She is young but strong, not afraid to question the things she sees going on around her or those in power. She feels at times that she doesn't fit into her little world, but what she doesn't realize right away is that it is okay not to conform. Throughout the story we see Siena's character grow emotionally, and as she matures she makes choices that fit her own desires rather than those of the tribe elders and begins to question everything she thought she ever knew.

The world building in this book was simply amazing, and I hope it continues to be as dedicated and intricate through the rest of the series. The imagery the author was able to portray brought the story to life. I additionally enjoyed the unique language in the story, which helped set the atmosphere and added to the overall effect of the story. Add all of the above to the unique and interesting storyline, the author's humor (loved Perry!), and all the mysteries brought about by the conclusion of this story, and Fire Country looks to be a very promising start to a new series.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
