Holy Hotness ~ Kestrel by A.M. Hargrove

Kestrel (a Hart Brothers novel) by A.M. Hargrove

This is an adult contemporary romance novel (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥1/2
(Four and a Half Swoon Worthy Hearts)

Book Summary

 Kestrel (A Hart Brothers Novel)

**This is the 3rd book in the series, but it is a Stand Alone Novel

**Not intended for readers under the age of 18 due to its mature content and strong language.

Two lives with horrific pasts. One chance meeting that changed them both forever.

“One look at her and I want to run. Frizzy hair, thick glasses, mom jeans, and ruffles up to her neck. Who the hell wears shit like that? What decade is she living in? My mother doesn’t even dress like that!”

Raised by a monster, Kestrel Hart somehow survived. Now that the monster is dead, he’s trying to move on, to pull himself together. Struggling with issues no one can imagine, he moves away from his family, from the brother who loves him, and the sister-in-law who supports and understands him the best.

Charleston, South Carolina is his new home. And he has a purpose. He’s opening up a new division of his brother’s corporation. But a surprise awaits him. Her name is Carter Drayton.

Carter’s past is also a painful one. She is dealing with the tragic death of her family. She’s healing in the only way she knows how.

Carter needs love. Kestrel craves human contact. Neither of them recognizes what’s right before their eyes. Will they see it before it’s too late?

My Review

This is a story about two broken people with totally different past. One wants to protect and the other doesn’t want to get close. Talk about opposites attract.
Oh how I love a story about a broken man. I don’t want to give anything away, but Kestrel’s story runs deep, but so does Carter’s. These two have a chance meeting that will spark a future to come but it won’t come easy. And what would the fun in that be it happened too easy. There will be some laughs in the story too.
The tension between the two will build and when the damn breaks, talk about holy hotness. Kestrel will make you swoon and make it hard to put the book down.
But this isn’t all about sweet nothings, this book has meat. It has a dash of danger and mystery to spice up the dish to one book you’ll want to get your hands on. This author has a way of keeping things interesting by not giving us a boring tried romance.
If you like a romance with a bit more grit than your mother’s old harlequin romances, check this one out.

Ginny Walters always knew her weakness for bad boys would get her into trouble. Her one night stand with Black Halo’s lead guitarist, Ash Gore, was only supposed to be a fun, not the prelude to the sort of relationship that’d scorch holes in her heart as well as her bed sheets. She’d be the happiest woman in the world if Ash wasn’t so determined to keep their connection off radar.

Ash Gore knows girlfriends are bad news for bands, which is why he’s resolved to keep his attachment to Ginny a secret. He and the guys have enough on their stages as they try to piece themselves back together after the band’s split. But when new drummer, Iain Willows, starts taking an active interest in Ginny, tensions quickly mount. Soon, Ash is not only at risk of losing Ginny, but everything he holds dearest–including life itself.

Excerpt - ALL FIRED UP (Black Halo #2)

Ash decided he liked holding hands. OK, so their height difference meant his shoulder ached after about twenty minutes, and he had to go for the alternative of wrapping his arm around her back so they could show off their couple like status, but he definitely liked the whole togetherness thing. They explored the banks of the river Scheldt first, then some of the older parts of the city, stopping to enjoy a round of Bolleke, an amber beer from the local De Koninck Brewery—he only knew because he read it off the bottle label—at a congenial antiquated bruin café full of grizzled locals. The best part of the experience being that nobody bothered them. Sure, he caught a few glances, he was a good looking guy and Ginny was an absolute bombshell, but most of those looks were from ladies his mum’s age, obviously appreciating the signs of young love. Not a single blessed fan girl came at him with their arms outstretched, and he wasn’t obliged to sign anything for the whole afternoon other than a debit card receipt. It was absolute bliss.

All right, so he wouldn’t want to live like this all of the time. He knew he was an attention junky, but as an afternoon of normalcy went, it rated pretty well.

‘I suppose I’m going to have to give you back soon,’ Ginny moaned as she consulted the tourist information leaflet she’d picked up from a stand inside the café-bar. That’s a shame, it might have been nice to go and check out Rubens house. The artist,’ she clarified, in response to his puzzled look. ‘He lived here. His house looks gorgeous,’ she showed him a picture.

‘We might not have time for that, but we should have time to do something else Antwerp is famous for.’

‘What’s that?’ she asked.

Ash turned over the leaflet she held. ‘Let’s go shopping.’

‘Shopping?’ She stared at the square box that he tapped his finger against, which show a single exquisitely cut diamond. ‘Ash, you’re not serious.’

‘What else would we go shopping for in the diamond capital of the world?

Maybe I can buy you something sparkly to wear in my favourite intimate piercing.’

Her eyes widened; they caught the sun and glittered like diamonds, or at least two spectacular pieces of golden jade. ‘I hardly think they sell that type of jewellery.’

‘Oh, I don’t know, I bet they do. I can’t be the only man on the planet that appreciates sparkly things in sparkly places.’

‘I don’t remember my pussy being covered in fairy dust.’

‘No, but it makes me feel as if I’m covered in fairy dust when I’m fucking it.’ She prodded him in the elbow to silence him, but he knew she liked it when he was crude. It turned her on. Hey, it turned him on too.

It didn’t take long to find the specialist diamond dealers among the mediaeval streets. Ginny snatched the sunglasses off Ash’s nose as they peeped in through the window, and put them on herself.

‘You remember those aren’t mine,’ Ash reminded her.

‘Yeah, but I don’t mind you getting the blame for having half inched them, and I think I might need something to help obliterate the price tags so I don’t faint. You honestly want to do this?’

‘Yeah. Now, serious face on, and make like we’re totally in love or something and we’re shopping for an engagement ring.’
***

If he actually made her try on engagement rings she was going to have ruddy heart attack. Not that she wouldn’t be thrilled and flattered, and a whole lot of other things, but no. Just no. Not yet. It was way too soon.

For Christ’s sakes he wouldn’t even acknowledge their relationship publically, and there were reasons she’d have to turn him down that she really didn’t want to get into.

Ginny stayed as close to Ash as she could get as they ventured inside the shop. This sort of high-end boutique always made her feel like she was a speck of lint on the floor, so much so that she actually found it difficult to admire the items for what they were. Ash, bastard that he was, cooed over things with eye melting price tags and actually made her try things on. Ginny decided he just liked making the assistants’ hearts flutter. They got a kind of crazed looks in their eyes whenever he inspected a particularly pretty rock. Hopefully they were thinking about the commission they’d make and not how much they’d like to do him.
‘Seen anything you like?’ he asked.

She shook her head.

‘What we’re really after his a J-curved diamond tipped barbell.’
He was a devil. An absolute stinking fiend. The assistant, bless her, gaped at him obviously clueless.

‘Case 233,’ remarked the manager, sending the assistant off to fetch it with a flick of her wrist. She returned a moment or two later, with a small display case that she unlocked.

‘I like this one,’ he said, tugging her closer. ‘What about you?’

‘Ash, don’t. This isn’t necessary.’ She tightened her fingers around his fore-arm. ‘It’s too much for something that tiny that nobody’s ever gonna see.’

‘I’ll see it.’ He quirked his eyebrows significantly. ‘And what’s the point in having money if you can’t spend it on making the people you care about smile.’

‘You bought me beer and cake. I’m happy with that. If you want to spend money, buy your mum a gift.’

‘I’m not sure she’d know what to do with this,’ he said, holding the piece aloft.’ He smiled at the shop assistant. ‘It’s exquisite.’

‘Ash,’ Ginny squeaked, but her protest fell on deaf ears. He was already reaching for his wallet.

He leaned close to her and moved her hair away from her ear so that he could whisper into it. ‘Accept it, say thanks, and you can fuck me outside round the corner if you feel you need to express any more gratitude than that.’

‘We’ll take it,’ he told the assistant. He left Ginny starring at the glittering asscher cut diamond while he settled the bill.

My Review:

Racing Hearts: Book One  (Racing Hearts #1) is a novella written by Laura Lascarso.  I found this novel is easy to read and the story flowed quite well, the character's are well written and you get to know Jesse and Brooke right away.

I won't say to much about the story but it is well written, great story line and in the end you want book 2 right away so you can see what happens to these two characters. Because who doesn't love cute guys and fast cars!!!

Laura Lascarso writing is excellent, her story flows and you want to read more.  I am very excited to see where this story goes and what happens with all the character in her story.

I have rated it a 4 star's and cannot wait to read book two in this series.

Guest Post:

Why do you write YA?
By Laura Lascarso

In presenting to classrooms and at conferences, I get asked this question a lot. While it’s an easy question for me to answer, I never feel as though I address it in its entirety. Because there are a lot of reasons why I write YA.

One reason is because I like the conventions of YA where characters feel emotions deeply, take control of their own destinies, and generally kick ass. The structure of YA has a relatively short timeline, which lends to more action and plot twists.  YA writers take chances with the subjects of their stories and the way they in which they tell them. I believe in taking risks and challenging yourself to strike out on new paths.

But far and above the mechanics, I write YA because I believe in my audience. Teens and young adults have the capacity to change the world in a positive way. And I believe that it’s my mission and life’s work to empower them to do so.

When I was a teen I thought I knew everything about the world. But now, in my mid-thirties, I realize just how much I didn’t know back then—how painful it is to have your heart broken, how people you think are your friends might not have your best intentions at heart, how money and politics rule the world, and perhaps most importantly, how to take all that anger and frustration and funnel it in a positive, action-oriented direction. My teen self is my adult self, only with a little more knowledge of the world around me. As a writer, I want to share what I’ve learned with teen readers. Not in a preachy, I-know-what’s-best-for-you sort of way, but in a way that encourages the reader to ask questions about their own lives and the lives of others. I do not propose to have the answers, but I do know that the only way to get answers is to ask hard questions, of yourself, your friends and family, and your world.

There’s another reason that I write YA. It’s because I believe in books. Books are a way to experience another life, live in another person’s skin, learn about their challenges and heartaches, and see the world from a different point of view. Many of the problems facing our world right now are because people don’t understand each other—cultures, nations, generations. We make assumptions about others, which leads to prejudice, which leads to hate and violence. In our society there’s a lot of talking but not a lot of listening. When you read about another person’s life experience, you become the listener. Reading teaches you compassion and it allows you to travel to worlds you might not otherwise experience.

In fiction there are heroes and there are villains. In the real world it’s not always so easy to determine who is who, and the slope from good guy to bad guy is a slippery one. This is why it’s so important to know thyself. When I write characters, I see myself in every one of them, villains included. Because every person has the capacity for good and bad. There’s an old Cherokee tale and it goes like this:

One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’

The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’

I believe that each and every one of us has the potential for good. I believe that books feed the good wolf inside of us. And that is the reason why I write YA.

EXCERPT
“I thought you were with the band,” he said as he lifted his coffee to his lips. It was the only way he could think to open the topic for discussion. Not that he cared, of course. She’d called him. It was a start. If there was a line he wouldn’t cross when it came to getting what he wanted—namely, her—he hadn’t yet seen it. Deep longing for something out his reach was a familiar weight. Her eyes never left the dessert menu. He knew she wasn’t really seeing it because her gaze remained fixed to one spot.

“With the band,” she repeated, sounding wry and making him wonder if he’d insulted her. “That would require knowing where they are,” she added so quietly Trey assumed it was meant more for her than him. With a shake of her head, Arbor met his stare. For a split second, Trey was rendered mute. Everything around them disappeared. It punched him in the chest. She possessed something other people did not.

“What about you?” Her question didn’t make as much sense as it might have if she wasn’t affecting his brain function.

“I’m not with the band,” he said automatically, pulling a ghost of a smile from her.

“You’re a cop,” she said, helping him along.

“Detective actually.” He wasn’t trying to be a dick. It was more that he’d worked hard to get where he was. She set her elbows on the table. A playful light entered her eyes.

“What do you detect?”

“Satanic and ritualistic homicides.” Huh. She didn’t even flinch.

“I wasn’t aware there was such a high number of those types of murders that it required a special title. Are you the only one or is there an entire division?”

Against his will, Trey’s lips twisted. “Unfortunately, there is a need for such a title. There’re three of us. I’m not sure it counts as an entire division. Louisiana is a hotbed of all things satanic and ritualistic. You’re likely to run across anything here.”

Her gaze moved over his face, but her expression remained blank. “You do look tired.” Before he had time to react, she added, “I’ll have to take your word on the matter. I only moved here two weeks ago.”

He opened his mouth to ask more. Instead, something entirely different popped out. “You’re beautiful.” She blinked. Her surprise evident. There was no way she was as shocked as he was. He hadn’t meant to say it. It was true, of course, but it had still slipped past his lips without his permission.

“Thank you.” Arbor’s response sounded more questioning than automatic. He snorted. She blushed. The sight fascinated him. Their knees brushed making Trey realize somehow, he’d moved his chair closer to hers.

My Review ♥♥♥♥ (Four Sated Hearts)

This book was Scorching HOT. I don’t think I read a book this hot in quite a while. And it was just my favor of everything. YUM.

I also really liked how this book was executed. There is present mixed with past in an engaging and not confusing way. It was just enough to past to give you hints about the future without bogging the story down. It kept me interested throughout and by gosh, NO INSTA LOVE. Thank goodness for that.

So why not give this book FIVE Sated Hearts.

I guess the story didn’t wrap up basic questions. And not the who, what, why, when and where. Those were answered, although the where is a little iffy, but I’ll excuse that based on the story.

But there were question brought up by the story that are never resolved. So as not give spoilers, I’ll be a bit cryptic. Those who read should guess what I’m talking about. What was the Bargain? What was the point to the 2 offers? What was up with the apartment next door? And what was up with the walls, whispers and man?

Although we get a satisfactory resolution to the story, those questions above which are brought up to intrigue you or confuse you in the story are never answered.

But the heat level in this book was off the charts. It was HOT, really smoking, fan your ass HOT. However, I will say that every time we get to the point of sheathing the sword so to speak, the actions sort of ends there. Not so much fade to black, but I felt like I missed out a bit considering this is erotica. Also, the m/m only scratched the surface and I seriously longed for more. I wish I would have gotten a heck of a lot more. And it felt more like a teaser to M/M. This because I’m a serious m/m fan.

Overall, I read this at 2am and don’t regret staying up til dawn to finish. Maybe, we can get more because I would love the answers to my questions and more M/M action. I recommend this to anyone who likes f/m, ménage and a dash of m/m. Great hot story.

My book boyfriend Killian.

My Review

Let me be honest. I hate cheating books with a passion. But there are some exceptions, Thoughtless (well at least beginning with the 2nd book in the series) and this one. But otherwise, I’ll take a pass.
I’m even going to say that I was rooting for the other guy in book one. Like rooting hard. IDK. Call me fickle sometimes, but the way the story was told and unfolded, I felt for the semi stay at home mom. And the guy in that one, Dave, was all kinds of yummy.
But in this story we get to meet Rick and fickle me quickly changes sides. Although I admit the start of the story was a bit slow for me, it quickly picks up. And Rick became my knight in shiny armor. I loved him soooo much. Even more than Dave. But I still loved Dave and felt bad for a particular moment in the story. You must read to find out what happens. Still…
My emotions were all over the place. The author made my heart stutter stop several times. It was a wonderful read and I enjoyed every second once the story got going. And I was too invested in the story to stop reading even well past the witching hour and into the early dark of a new day.
If you haven’t read the first or enjoy cheating books, check this one out. I recommend highly.
My book boyfriend Rick.

Talk about HOCK Rockstar book! High Strung by T. Gephart

High Strung (Power Station #1) by T. Gephart

This is an adult contemporary romance (Rated NC-17)

 ♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Knock 'em out the Park Hearts)

Book Summary

Ashlyn Murphy was not living the dream. Twenty-seven years old, college educated, up to her eyeballs in debt and yet she’d been relegated to pouring beers at a local bar. She desperately needed an out and was willing to do anything to get back into the corporate world. Well, almost anything. Dan Evans, Rock Star was NOT one of those things. In fact she despised him. Apparently he didn’t get the memo.

Dan Evans, bass player of international rock band Power Station had it all. He was rich, travelled the world, played to millions of adoring fans and had no shortage of beautiful women willing to share his bed. He didn’t need a moody redheaded knockout with a superiority complex complicating his life. Or did he?

When two people who couldn’t be more opposite cross paths, it’s bound to be explosive; sometimes all you can do is sit back and enjoy the show.

My Review ~ By Terri ~ @mybookboyfriend

My first book by this author and I was highly impressed. It was recommended by a friend of mine who always recs books to me that knock them out of the park. Thanks Amy!
This was a great book without the needs of contrived plots to get the heart racing. This story was unpretentious and refreshing.  And guess what?  Laugh Out Loud funny! And I mean that. Because I didn’t find some other so called funny books, funny at all. I’ve read and seen too much to be easily brought to laughter by lines used by comics over the centuries. Not the case here. I was laughing my head off.
Let’s get to the characters. DAN, DAN, DAN. I love him. And guess what, his name is DAN, not some made up let’s try to be different kind of name. And that about sums it up. This book is good because it didn’t try to be anything but. Okay, back to Dan. Dan is a bad boy in a realistic, I don’t need therapy after reading kind of way. He was a bad boy who didn’t make bones about who he is or blame childhood drama on being a man. And he’s funny. His one liners are excellent.
And Ashlyn got points for not being dim witted, struck by hotness that she becomes a mess when he’s not who she wants him to be kind of girl. I like her strength.
And the story was a cold drink on a hot summer’s day and let me tell you. You will need that cold drink because this book gets hot. Anyway, READ already. So good. It’s worth it, promise.
My book boyfriend Dan.

Man on the Run by Gail Hamilton +Excerpt

This reminds me of something my friend used to always say,
"I like my coffe like I like my men, tall and black."
Have to admit, this sounds like a fun read!

Lydia Marshall needs to round up the last samples of an unpredictable "relationship enhancer" created by her employer, NuGenn Pharmaceuticals. The last batch of the so-called potion is in the hands of a test subject, Damone Reid. But when Lydia finally tracks him down she's in for a shock. He is no longer the shy, awkward programmer she interviewed months before. Suddenly, she finds herself swept up in Damone's potion-fueled quest to live life to the fullest. They go kite flying.  They go whale watching. They go dancing in the moonlight.

Even though Lydia tries to keep things professional the former nerd's enthusiasm--and kisses--are infectious. As the tall, sexy adventurer takes her on a wild ride, Lydia finds herself falling for him. But is it the love potion that is igniting her feelings? And what will Damone do if he finds out her secret mission is to destroy the very thing that is changing his life? The discovery could destroy their blossoming romance.

OK... so, obviously, it's not hump day (when I usually post.)  Bad Alana!  But to make it up to you, I have an excerpt!

Lydia asked to see Damone right away but Mrs. Benson shook her head.
"He's gone.  Packed a bag this morning and told me he was going on a trip to have some fun. Didn't know when he'd be back.  Whistling show tunes, he was, and said he meant to start at some place called Barrel-o-Thrills.  Took off before I could get another word out of him."
Hastily, Lydia thanked Mrs. Benson and rushed out to her car.  A quick search on her cell phone found Barrel-o-Thrills out on the edge of the city. It was a club specializing in bungee jumping. The website announced: Give yourself the thrill of a lifetime.  Your molecules will never be the same.
Lydia remembered the 50-foot railing and tore out of the driveway.  What if Damone came to real harm because of NuGenn!  What if he'd used too much of the potion and it had morphed into a thrill enhancer instead of a relationship enhancer!
Oh, the lawsuit!  Oh, the bad publicity!
By the time Lydia got to Barrel-o-Thrills, parked and paid admission, her heart was pounding.  She raced over to bungee towers just in time to see a long, gangling body flying through the air, arms and legs wind-milling, yelling with delight.  When she finally got to where the crew were slipping the harness from Damone, she could see what his grandmother meant. He was grinning even though, wobbling and whooping, he could barely stand upright.
Could the potion have done this? Lydia wondered again.
Or had he just discovered common recreational drugs?
Moving swiftly and decisively, she rushed over and grabbed Damone by the elbow.
"Let him go.  I'll take care of him from here," she told the crew chief.
Unclipping the last of the harness, the man shrugged and handed Damone over.  Reeling from the wild plunge, Damone staggered straight into Lydia.  Hanging on to stay upright, he blinked at her in disoriented, astonished surprise.
"Volta..." he gasped.
The next second, he flung both his arms around Lydia and started kissing her with a passion that curled her toes and shocked her at the same time.
In fact, Lydia was so shocked that she just stood there while Damone tightened his embrace even more.  His mouth feasted on hers with such total delight, and such complete abandon that the sensation swept away any resistance Lydia tried to muster.  The fellow was kissing her as though he hadn’t kissed a woman in ages--kissing as though he meant to claim every delicious pleasure he had missed living like a hermit in a basement.   Lydia could actually feel the determination rushing through him.

Gail Hamilton has been creating novels since the great romance boom of the eighties, writing for Harlequin and other publishers. She has been a farm hand, English teacher, ad copywriter, and once rode a British Bedford truck across the Sahara and back to see Timbuctu. All of it is fodder for her fiction. She is drawn to action, romance, adventure and characters with a distinctly odd twist. These show up in her many romance novels and her fast-moving historical novel, The Tomorrow Country.

After trying urban life in Europe and Toronto, Gail returned to live on the family farm where she grew up. In this rural corner hugging the north shore of Lake Ontario, Gail digs into the rich, raucous local history. She cherishes a secret passion for animated movies and loves snapping photos of nature all around her, reading the constant changes like a newspaper every morning. What better place to hatch brand new tales for everyone’s enjoyment.
